Trio Victoria was well received by a good sized audience. This was very pleasing considering there was another concert on that day - we know some of you were unable to come to our concert because of it. The Committee works hard to make sure other groups in the area know the dates of our concerts (we tend to settle our next year's programme earlier than others), but occasionally something goes wrong and there is a clash. Happily it doesn't happen often.

This month we are very happy to welcome back David Guerin, erstwhile resident of Raumati, now living in Auckland, for a solo piano recital.

David has been a frequent performer for the Society, last performing for us in 2001, when he played Bach's memorable Goldberg Variations. One of New Zealand's leading pianists, David studied at Victoria University with Judith Clark, and at the University of Auckland with Janetta McStay, graduating with a M.Mus. Further study in Cologne focused initially on contemporary music with Aloys Kontarsky and then on Lieder accompaniment with Wilhelm Hecker and chamber music with members of the Amadeus Quartet.

David has appeared as a soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, has toured for Chamber Music New Zealand and has made many recordings for Radio New Zealand. Several New Zealand composers (including John Psathas, Philip Dadson and Noel Sanders) have written pieces especially for him, arising from his strong commitment to performing music by New Zealanders. He has also played in several dance collaborations including with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company in 2000.

In Auckland he appears in the Auckland Chamber Orchestra series, performs solo concerts and runs a private teaching practice.
