"To celebrate their 30th Anniversary in 2008, the Waikanae Music Society established a charitable trust to recognise promise and commitment in New Zealand by music students up to and including the age of 29 years. The Trust's aim is to foster their love of chamber music through granting awards and/or scholarships."

2017 SCHOLARSHIPS


The Trustees of THE WAIKANAE MUSIC SOCIETY CHARITABLE TRUST FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS has awarded Scholarships for the 2017 year. Next year Awards of $4000.00 will be considered for education or performance development from applicants who must be New Zealand citizens and tertiary students under the age of 30 at the 31 October 2018.

Matthias Balzat (cello) For travel to auditions in Europe.

Alexander McFarlane (viola) To attend masterclasses at IMS Prussia Cove, Cornwall, England, and with Tabea Zimmermann.

Alexa Thomson (viola) To assist with the costs of orchestral auditions and competitions, including travel and making recordings.

Salina Fisher (composition) For travel to auditions at several USA music schools in preparation for graduate study.

Jacky Siu (cello) To assist with the purchase of a new cello bow for his studies at the Guildhall School of Music.

Carol Wang (bassoon) To assist with travel and cost of bassoon lessons with leading teachers in Sydney and Melbourne.

Alice McIvor (viola) Towards the purchase of a specialised baroque bow for her viola studies in Canada.

Estelita Rae (violin) To assist with her studies at Monash University, Australia.

Edward King (cello) To assist in the purchase of a new bow.

William McNeill (French horn) For travel from his base in Europe to London for extra lessons.

James Jin (violin) To help finance his doctorate, including getting access to manuscripts from Germany.

Melanie Pinkney (violin) To enable her to attend the Akaroa International Music Festival.

Maria Mo (piano) To assist in her study towards a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at the University of Auckland.

Rafaella Garlick-Grice (piano accompaniment) Towards travel to London to audition for a trainee repetiteur position with the English National Opera.

Hilary Hayes (violin) Towards completing an Honours degree at the University of Auckland and for attending the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum in Salzburg and auditioning for further study in Germany.

Emma Yoon (violin) To assist in postgraduate studies in Germany and for masterclasses in Europe.

Andrew Leathwick (piano) Towards travel to Europe for lessons and to investigate opportunites for post-graduate study.

Kate Oswin (violin) Towards travel to London to audition for a place in the Masters programmes at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
